Onboarding of first producers across southern Italy successful

In June, appellando reached a key milestone in Italy: together with our local OGM partner ALS, we conducted the first producer onboardings on-site across Puglia, Basilicata, and Campania, marking the transition from preparation to practical implementation.

These onboarding visits combined alignment sessions with management, worker awareness trainings in the field and warehouse, the placement of multilingual posters in locations where workers have easy access and privacy (e.g., changing rooms, vending areas, and warehouses), as well as the distribution of hand-outs in the languages of the workers. Across the onboardings, we worked with diverse workforces, reinforcing the importance of low-threshold, multilingual access and concise formats that fit operational realities. This was possible due to the close alignment with producers beforehand on the realities of the onboarding day, including workers’ languages and backgrounds, field activities planned that day and other logistics. Thank you to these pilot producers for the successful collaboration.

The first onboardings also generated important learnings for the next rollout wave: on-site visits are most successful when producers are engaged proactively and early by their supply chain partners, and personal outreach remains essential to secure effective preparation and ensure that both management and workers are ready for the on-site onboarding.

Building on these experiences, we are preparing the next onboarding rounds (e.g. in July) and will continue working with supply chain partners to support a practical and effective rollout of appellando in Italy.
